The Approach of the Usurper: KELLY KING's Latest 'Challenge'
The mythos has arisen that Kelly King is unbeatable. Built like an armored tank and as merciless as they come, he's left a long line of crushed and humiliated bodies in his wake. He knows full well the target on his back as wrestlers continue to line up in a bid to be the one to land the epic takedown of his majesty the King. But time and time again the would-be usurpers crash into the mountain of muscle and turn into one more cautionary tale about the futility of unseating Kelly from his throne. He never grows tired of picking apart fresh meat, because he knows that each and every victory elevates his wrestling dominance further as the stuff of legend.
Curly haired, handsome, blue eyed beauty Royce Perry looks every bit the part of Sir Lancelot, ready, willing and just possibly able to go down in history as the wrestler who slayed the majestic beast. By Royce's reckoning, he possesses just as impressive a pedigree as Kelly does. Royce hasn't been on the indy pro circuit quite as long, but like Kelly, he comes from a storied wrestling family. Sure, he's giving away 20 pounds of raw, functional muscle mass, but the way Royce figures it, that just makes the drama of unseating the self-anointed King of the Ring that much more epic. Smirking, snarky, sadistic Kelly won't see it coming when a dazzlingly pretty rookie like Royce chops him off at the knees.
Royce is determined to send the signal that this will not be a typical squash and torture session that Kelly is famous for. He slaps the big man in his meaty pecs, shoving him backward and demanding respect. With speed no man as heavily muscled as Kelly should have, he drives rapid fire knee lifts into Royce's chiseled abs in reply. A closed fist punch to the pin-up boy's handsome face, followed by repeatedly face planting him into the corner turnbuckle makes Royce decisively less pretty within seconds. "Not so tough, now?" Kelly taunts, just waiting for the rookie's heroic personal fable to shatter into hopelessness before him.
"That all you got?" Royce snaps back, even as his knees quiver and he sways punch drunk on his feet. Kelly can't quite believe his ears. With one huge hand he chokes his challenger in the corner, bending him backward across the turnbuckle and then drilling brutal jabs into Royce's coverboy core. "You still talking shit!?" Kelly barks angrily.
Even as Kelly unleashes his full arsenal, Royce maintains that cocky grin. It's as if he knows something that Kelly doesn't, as if his cherubic smile holds the key to the heel's undoing. "I'm better than you," Royce snarls through a stubborn sneer, refusing to submit to Kelly's classic finisher the cross-faced crippler. "You ain't so tough," he growls, as if having seen the worst Kelly can do, he's that much more certain of his heroic reversal of fortune just around the corner.
Between blond ambition and an absolute ruler defending his throne, there's a huge expanse of abject suffering and physical torture. Between high-class technical wrestling and a closed-fisted slugfest, heroes and villains defy clear categories and blur the lines of human decency. And stripped of all pretense, legends giving way to the harsh reality of one muscled warrior hell-bent on breaking another muscled warrior, bodies and egos are crushed underfoot until one gasping subject screams obediently to his new king, "I surrender!"
