Making A Splash
Some wrestlers make their debut knowing they have what it takes. Others come in with something to prove. Gabe Steel shows himself to be both in this match. Massively muscled and no stranger to the ring, Gabe has run in underground wrestling circles long enough, and is ready to make a name for himself. Not content to wait for the date the boss has set for his official debut, the upstart rookie has decided to crash Calvin Hayne's pool party and send a message to the rest of the roster that he's a force to be reckoned with.
Big and beefy Calvin may be a pound-for-pound match for Gabe, but the newcomer certainly isn't lacking in confidence when he strolls up to an unsuspecting Calvin and interrupts his previously peaceful workout. Gabe's mouth starts running a mile a minute and it's doesn't even take that long before Calvin tires of the insults and sends Gabe crashing headfirst into the pool with him. The upstart isn't doing nearly as much talking while trapped in a headlock with Calvin's bulging biceps grinding into his face, especially when Calvin dunks him under the water for good measure, leaving a somewhat less confident Gabe sputtering about his opponent not fighting fair. Not the strongest start for the new boy looking to make a splash.
Gabe has had his share of rough matches before, though, and doesn't waste time turning the fight in his favor, blindsiding Calvin with some of his own workout equipment, and proceeding to choke the muscled stud out in the pool. With water dripping off every inch of Calvin's flexing physique shining in the sun, you can see just how much power he's bringing to bear, trying to break the rookie's hold and draw breath. But Gabe's muscle isn't just for show, and Calvin is trapped, drained, and half drowned, as Gabe semi-sadisticly, repeatedly dunks the big man underwater in payback.
A gasping and waterlogged Calvin finally slips free, and Gabe makes the rookie mistake of crowing over his opponent before he's actually beaten the man. Gabe's attempt the start a flex-off instead grants Calvin a much needed breather, after which he turns back to the fight and sends Gabe plunging below the waterline only to lift the beefy newbie in a crushing bearhug. "Muscle on slick muscle" is what describes the scenes that follow, as the action only intensifies and both soaked studs struggle to stay on top, and above water.
Gabe suffers in a series of brutally executed full nelsons, bodyscissors, and sleepers as Calvin uses all of his considerable muscle to wear down the rookie whom he thought would be an easy target. Gabe is literally gasping for breath between the rib-crushing holds and Calvin's heelish use of their watery environment as another weapon. But Gabe hasn't come without the muscle and moves to back up his bravado, and proves he can match his opponent muscle for muscle and blow for blow. When the burly rookie finally breaks free, it's Calvin's turn to struggle, suffer, and scream, as he feels Gabe's own bearhugs and bodyscissors break down his thickly muscled defenses.
The action continues to fly back and forth and both men bring out every ounce of power their muscles can muster. Bodies are lifted clear of the water in overhead presses and firemen carries, or sent flying with powerbombs and chokeslams. As each man grows increasingly desperate to put his opponent away for good, little is off limits. Balls are bashed, spines are slammed to the hard stone walls surrounding the pool, and eventually the exhausted combatants drop all pretense of finesse and lay into each others brawny bodies with hard-hitting haymakers in a final bid to end this fight.
And end it does. Before long, the beatings and sheer scarcity of oxygen between the chokes and the fighter's generally waterlogged condition weakens one man to the point he cannot stop the hits from landing, or the holds from crushing him. In the end, one wrestler, half drowned and gasping for breath, beaten and bruised, with no fight left in him, can only submit and hope for mercy. But the winner of this match isn't satisfied with just a submission, and has more in store for his helpless opponent. The final images of this match show one man in total control, tossing his victim back and forth like a bulldog with a ragdoll, before finally finishing his victim in a submerged sleeper, threatening his opponent with far more than a simple defeat. One dripping wrestler walks away from this pool with his head held high, while the other is laid out on the deck, the barest rise and fall of his broad pecs the only sign he's survived this aquatic struggle, but only barely.
