Trial by Fire
The mats are the ultimate test in wrestling. It's a style of wrestling that requires lightning like reflexes, muscle memory and knowledge and anticipation and skill that comes from hours of practice on the mats. A stronger wrestler can only hold out on the mats for so long against superior skill; skill will beat strength on the mats any time. The Boss often likes to test rookies on the mats, to see what they can do, before deciding on the course of their career - or if they're going to have a career at all. Both Dimitri and Daniel Bernal came to the mats claiming experience and skill. Dimitri is better known as the mouthy pro heel who trashed Ash DeLeon at Wrestling with Pride, but he made big claims about his mat skills. Daniel Bernal, though lighter, proved he's a mat master on Florida Fights 8 vs mat master Ethan. The boss threw these two on the mats and turned on the cameras to see what happened.
The two tough guys circle each other and tie up, collar and elbow. Daniel takes the bigger man down and shows off some pretty impressive skills as he controls Dimitri fairly easily, hoisting him up eventually into a humiliating inverted cradle, but Dimitri manages to break free from it by shifting his weight and changing the balance. Dimitri keeps his cool and gets control of Daniel pretty quickly, but Daniel fluidly reverses out of Dimitri's grasp and controls him again. Dimitri manages to get hold of Daniel's arm and uses a wristlock to take control again but Daniel easily reverses the hold and Dimitri finds himself frustrated and in the other's control yet again. Dimitri reverses it again, controls his own frustration and now it's his turn to get to work and show off his own skills. He rides and controls Daniel for a while until Daniel again, slippery as an eel, worms out of his grasp and reverses positions still again, wrapping his legs around Dimitri's head in a vise-like figure 4 head scissors! Dimitri manages to get free from it only to have it become a regular head scissors, but he escapes and gets Daniel finally in a Boston crab, which has Daniel tapping the mat in submission.
Dimitri gives Daniel no respite, no moment to collect himself and catch his breath and goes back on the attack - he wants to be a star for BGEast, and Daniel's in his damned way, and making him look bad! Now it's Daniel's turn to show off his skill as he not only holds off the attack successfully, but manages to take control again, raising Dimitri up into an inverted ceiling hold! There's no escape from this - but Daniel inexplicably frees him, only to pull him up into a camel clutch! Dimitri has no choice but to submit now - and Daniel leaps up triumphantly, posing and flexing, waiting for Dimitri to get up before going after him again. But when he stays down, Daniel takes the fight to him, first tearing him into a banana split and then transitioning into a vicious head scissor!
Dimitri submits again but this time Daniel wastes no time in celebrating his triumph, going after him again only to be caught up into a bearhug - and now Dimitri's strength advantage begins to show. Their skills are indeed impressive, as are their stoic acceptance of the pain they are each dishing out. Their bodies now slippery with sweat, their faces red from exertion and their bodies marked up with red spots from blows, the two continue fighting, neither willing to give in, neither willing to allow the other to take home the victory, summoning up sources of energy and will until finally, the winner will not be denied his triumph.
