The upsurge in Cole Cassidy's BGE career is cause for celebration. Recently released matches against Maxx Danno, Kirk Donahue, and Cameron Matthews are among his best work ever and proof that the wily heel is as cruel and sexy now as he was when taking on Mike Martin and Tarzan Tyler Reese years ago. His air of slippery menace is the defining feature of his style both then and now. Part sidewinder, part dungeon master, Cassidy likes hurting people and never so much as when he's offered access to a tasty up-and-comer like Tiko. Unlike a lot of heels who chew the scenery and rant incessantly, Cole is, more often than not, an icepick jabbed into the heart so quickly and noiselessly the victim has no time to react.
Tiko is on camera for just a second or two before Cole attacks him from behind and hurls him under the ropes into the squared circle. Cole drives first his fist and then (three times) his knee into the small of Tiko's back. Then grabbing one hand and one foot he draws his prey back like a bow and arrow, with the heel of one boot digging into the lower vertebrae. Tiko's hoarse, agonized screams might as well be floating upwards from a doorway to Hell. Cole hasn't a lot to say that he can't more effectively express with a punch, a kick, and a shoulder thrust to the midsection. He shoves Tiko into a corner to blast away at the young wrestler's lean physique and weaken him to the point he cannot resist a followup front suplex that lands Tiko's butt in the center of the ring.
Cassidy applies a camel clutch slowly, almost as if he wants his opponent to savor the move like a fine wine. Or maybe it's Cole himself who wants to savor the moment. Released, Tiko staggers to his feet. He's barely upright when Cole again suplexes him to the canvas. The savvy heel lets Tiko quiver and whimper on the mat and paces like a wolf in a narrow cage before bending the babyface in a full Boston crab hold. Again, Cole eases into position, prolonging each step of the hold for maximum effect. It's as if he wants to hear each snap of the backbone as it is bent and twisted. If Tiko stops screaming or if he isn't screaming enough, Cole bounces to make the hold as painful and dramatic as possible. Each move is as meticulous as a scalpel's incision.
After getting wrapped around Cole's shin and then around a corner post, Tiko is laid across the top ropes like a sacrifice to an Aztec war god. Don't hold your breath for a hope spot in this match. It comes a couple of minutes before the 26-minute match's midpoint. It lasts just long enough to piss Cassidy off, which means the trauma to come will erase all Tiko's memory of the former trauma. And forget about a second hope spot. The later attacks become increasingly intimate and erotic, full of sado-erotic detailing and close body contact. Tiko is conscious unfortunately through the demolishing ordeal, which ends with Cole (mercifully? â?? come to think of it, probably not) putting the babyface out of his misery. The death blow is sudden and almost welcome.
