Brute Force
Bruno and Charlie are booked for the mat room, but Bruno's at the ring, sitting on the apron, adjusting his knee pads. Charlie's boiling mad because he's been waiting in the mat room, suited up in a singlet, ready to wrestle college-style. Finding Bruno in the ring, he demands that Bruno follow him back to the mats. He even pulls apart the ropes to facilitate Bruno's exit. Charlie is used to opponents closer to him in size and weight. A boulder like Bruno is something he's had little experience dealing with. Bruno refuses to leave the ring, insisting that the two of them face off in the squared circle. As if to underscore the point, Bruno reaches over the top rope, grabs Charlie by the head, and flings him over the ropes and into the ring.
You don't find brutes like Bruno every day. He's a cross between a hired thug and a standup comedian. LaBestia likes hurting people, and he never gives a second thought to the idea that picking on smaller guys is wrong. He'll pick on anybody, tall or short, stout or frail. He's an equal-opportunity bully. Dislocating shoulders comes naturally to him. He probably thinks everybody deserves a bruising. In his mind, he provides a service to the community. For him, hurting people is not just fun, but funny, too. He's quick to jeer at the sight of someone he's just bludgeoned now walking funny and to make a wisecrack (you know, to lighten the mood). He has never met a man he didn't like ... to stretch, hammer, and choke out.
Bruno peels Charlie off the ring floor and hurls him to the ropes. Charlie is not so easily dismissed. He bounds off the ropes, climbs up LaBestia's back, clamping his arms on one of the big man's arms and his legs on the other, and then drives Bruno headfirst to the mat. The DDT slows Bruno down, but for how long? Charlie is quick to flip the strongman on his back and then tumble over his gut a few times. Speed and nimbleness are tricks of the trade in mat wrestling. Charlie is well-suited to perform them. The magic wears off, though. Bruno catches the ginger snap in midair and body slams him. Charlie hits the floor so hard you might think that lightning struck, and maybe it did.
"You're pretty nimble, aren't you?" Bruno is less complimentary here than condescending. He thinks nimbleness is for skinny, ginger-haired punks like Evans, guys destined to grovel destroyed at his feet. He pulls the mat wrestler up and headbutts him, sending Charlie staggering backwards to the ropes. Bruno lifts him, heaves him up towards the ceiling, and smashes him back down to the mat. Bruno is like a walking encyclopedia of medieval tortures. Instead of using the usual instruments of torture, Bruno turns his body into a ramrod, rack, claw, head crusher, and catapult.
A third of the way through the contest, Bruno submits Charlie with a big backbreaker, holding the jobber by the chin and bending him backwards over his shoulder A few minutes later, Charlie turns the tables on Bruno again with pretty much the same results he got the first time. The hope spot, impressive as it is, lasts only long enough for LaBestia to reassert his alpha status. BG East calls the series Demolition for a reason. Gymnastics it isn't. The world can be a mean and brutal place, doubly so when Bruno LaBestia's in the ring.
