"Poor You, Poor You"
Besides being built like sons of Zeus, Big Barry Burke and Chace LaChance share a dry sense of humor, evident in this match's opening banter. Burke's quips come with a fixed grin that activates his dimples but conveys a sly and wolfish wariness. In contrast, LaChance keeps a straight face, so straight it's sometimes almost blank, but perfect for his deadpan sense of humor. Every now and then a glimmer of shy self-amusement breaks through Chace's reserve, and it's adorable. The two strongmen throw shade at each other, critiquing each other's biceps and arm-wrestling skills. Big Barry brings a wooden stool into the ring so he and Chace can rest their elbows for a test of arm strength to settle the debate.
Burke, with arms as thick as bank vault doors, wins, of course, and wins quickly. No contest. Chace's right arm is throbbing in pain. Burke wrenches the arm and slams his fist to the elbow, collapsing Chace to his knees. Burke hoists him up, uses him as weight for a few biceps curls, and then hoists the kid's butt up into the air for a body slam. Thus, Barry sets in motion his plan for the rest of the match: a relentless assault on Chace's body while admiring his own physique in the ringside mirror. The assault is equally physical and psychological. Burke is interested in breaking LaChance's spirit as well as his back. It's not unusual for big guys to feel personally offended when they are booked to fight smaller opponents, even ones as fit and sublimely proportioned as Chace.
Though looks are sometimes deceiving, Chace is pretty much what Barry was expecting: all muscle and no fight. He pummels his opponent against the turnbuckle and then ties him between the top and middle ropes to harangue him for the effrontery of stepping into the ring with him in the first place. Then he kicks him in the jaw, very nearly knocking him out. Writhing like a worm on a fishhook, Chace whines that Barry is trying to end his career. Barry claims he's ending Chace's career as a douchebag. "Beg me to stop," Burke taunts while adding pressure onto his helpless opponent's elbow and wrist. Chace refuses, but he has no counter moves either. An increasingly pissed-off BBB stomps on the side of Chace's head, making the pretty boy sob like a three-year-old.
"Are you crying now?" Burke is disgusted by LaChance's unmanly whimpering. "Poor you, poor you!" he mocks, stomping down on the kid's wrist. Barry continues to mangle his opponent, throwing his hundred-pound weight advantage into each kick and bludgeon. Chace has no defense as Barry bears down on him. A man lacking Chace's musculature would be literally crushed flat on impact, but muscles for show cannot stop the pain that courses from the scalp to the toes of LaChance's body. Only in the final five minutes (out of thirty) does Burke even begin to break a sweat. He hangs Chace's crash test dummy body on the corner ropes and uses him for a punching bag. Chace barely survives Barry's super-intense bear hugs, both chest to chest and chest to back. Finally, Burke targets the kid's carotid arteries, cinching LaChance's fate and rounding off the one-man show with one of ring wrestling's most effective and hottest finishers. The words hunk and bash together never got a clearer definition.
