When he heard Mikey returned to BGE after two years fighting on the Japan circuit, he had to have a match--a pure shoot. Barefoot in butt-hugging grappler's trunks, the vets show mutual respect, and it's on! Collar 'n elbow, the grapplers feel each other out. Doug rolls back, pulling Mikey down.
And as any Brazilian with the surname Gracie knows, on back is strength: Doug wraps his legs around Mikey's neck for a triangle choke and scores! "Guess I better turn it up a notch," Mikey says, and with kicks and strikes scores with a reverse choke. Doug's the grappler who strikes; Mikey's the striker who grapples: mongoose vs cobra, the yin and yang of "real" wrestlers. They trade falls, evenly matched, until a late surge makes one tap three decisive rounds in a row. But wait! The exhausted winner turns his back and the raging loser goes wild, leading to a payback postlude as emotionally insulting as it is physically bruising. Intense!
