A ring match between Harper and Donahue is big news. Kirk Donahue is a BG East regular who is wildly popular with fans for his ability to fill both heel and babyface roles, almost like he's got two personalities. Either way, he is a stellar ring performer, having taken on the company's fiercest competitors, bad-ass bosses like Guido Genatto, Kelly King, Kid Karisma, and Cole Cassidy. His showdown with beefy Lane Hartley is a classic, winner of Best Squash Match in a fan poll. Then again there's his equally lauded match (Best Ring Match) with Brendan Byers three years later. Opponents like these show no mercy, which inspired heel Kirk's re-emergence on the dark side, having had enough of being the punching bag. His transition has been hailed a success by both his old fans, lovers of his boy-next-door look, and heel-hungry fans, impressed with Kirk's newfound grit.
Drew Harper's BGE experience falls short of Donahue's, but his wrestling prowess has been on display in underground wrestling sites far and wide for the past few years. The combination of college jock and big brother styles has given him a unique place in wrestling, and it was only a matter of time before he moved up to set foot in the BGE ring. At this point, his wins and losses are equal, but his chances look slim against a tried-and-true pro like Kirk. Still, at 200-plus pounds and a height of six-one, Harper is built for ring wrestling and stinging haymakers and fancies his chances against a guy known for his babyface losses. And as you know, at BG East, anything can happen and Kirk has no problem putting his fan favorite pouch on the line.
Drew is already loosening up in the BGE ring when Kirk shows up, in black leather vest and shocking-pink trunks. Drew sneers at Kirk's outfit. Kirk is not having it. "I am THE Kirk Donahue," he boasts, flexing behind Drew, as both admire their reflections in the ringside mirror. They square off. Kirk repeats his boast: he's THE Kirk Donahue. "Well," Drew smirks, "Let's see what you got, then." In a flash, Kirk bitch-slaps Drew across the mouth, knocking down to all fours. Kirk slams his fist repeatedly to Drew's upper back, flattening him to the mat, then tugging him back to his feet to whip him into the turnbuckle. A few more blows, then Kirk chokes Drew against the middle ropes.
There's no two ways about it. Kirk has tiptop ring psychology, and Drew has plenty of catching-up to do. With devilish glee, Kirk tries to choke Drew out by any means necessary. Failing at that, he turns his attentions towards crippling him on top of attempting to prove Drew Harper has no business taking up space in the BG East ring. Ten minutes of this, and Drew suddenly turns the match around. He slams his hard left fist into Kirk's gut and snaps a full nelson on him. It's a splendid and rousing turnabout. Drew tosses Kirk around like a ragdoll, slamming him face down on the mat and digging his knee into Kirk's upper back. Kirk can only yelp like a small animal caught in the talons of a bird of prey.
Hair-pulling, crotch stomping, camel clutches, crab holds, ring-corner dives, and glimmering sweat like you have never seen follow in a match that spins just short of a death match. Even by BG East's top-level standards, this one smells like a real classic that fans will be talking about years from now. And with two beefy brawlers like Donahue and Harper, just about anything could happen!
