Diamonds in the Rough But Gems Nonetheless
Jayden Mayne is a slender, lithe young wrestler whom BG East is grooming for wrestling stardom. He's good looking, with boy-next-door appeal, and more importantly he is one of those athletes who possess a good instinct for pro wrestling. "A diamond in the rough," as The Boss likes to call them, who likes diamonds almost as much as he likes "rough." Jayden's dark short-cropped hair and symmetrical features would fit right in on the cover of Tiger Beat, but his ambitions drew him to the kind of tough competition that tests a young man's mettle and proves his value as a man. The obvious thing would have been to let Jonah Richards or Christian Taylor bust the newcomer's cherry, but then we started thinking that it might be better to pit him against another promising newcomer - let the two of them break each other in, without calling in an experienced wrestler, which would all but decide the outcome in advance. The Boss knew just the right guy.
Usually when we ask young guys just starting out in professional wrestling why they want to hop into the BG East ring, we get answers like "I want to show off my muscles," "I want to be a star," or "I want to be the next Mister Joshua." When Trent Blayze showed up, we could see he had the body, muscular but trim, broad backed, with a stomach that can withstand a dozen or so solid punches ... easily. We could see he had star potential. He has that spark in his eyes that the camera loves. We could see he had the flamboyant arrogance and the panache of a Goodman, a Drake, or a Rochelle. But when we questioned him why he wanted to enter the BG East roster, Trent replied, without pause, without blinking an eye, "The money's great and I love to beat guys up." Perfect!
So this is what we've got. The match starts with a standoff at the ring ropes: Jayden, inside, stretching for the bout, and Trent, outside, itching to pummel somebody. The two young men size each other up at once. Words are exchanged, challenging words that question the other's qualifications for this golden opportunity. Provocatively, Jayden gives Trent a clip on the nose, which riles up the ambitious heel for the fight. Fine by Jaydenâ??he's here to fight, not to make new friends. They don't wait for the bell. Trent is over the top rope in a flash, shoving Jayden back to a corner, kicking him to the mat, and stomping him down. Trent has muscle, height, and weight over Jayden, and in no time at all he squeezes a submission out of the rookie, ending Round 1.
