Caleb Brand has shown up in half a dozen BG East matches. You may recognize the face from elsewhere, too. The Canadian is a hardworking entrepreneur, who wrestles under a number of different names for different promotions. But he has done some of his most exciting work for us, for instance, going toe to toe with Mac Matthias for us three times (one of those times was a tag team event). In every instance, Caleb presents himself memorably in the ring - whether glowering at an opponent like a snake staring down a rat or beating the man down to the ground so hard that the man either cannot or would prefer not to get up again. Not a man of many facial expressions, Caleb seems happiest when he's causing some other dude some serious agony. And in Caleb's eyes, there are only two kinds of wrestler, the kind who can take pain and the kind who can dish it out. He is mainly interested in wrestling the former and being the latter.
We find Caleb wearing his trademark metallic blue square-cut trunks. Not many men have the bodies or the nerve to wear such flashy gear. But he wears it with style. Caleb doesn't have to be told that he looks dazzling in these trunks, but he doesn't make a lot of fuss over it either. His arrogance - and make no mistake about it, the man is arrogant - is of the quiet, smoldering variety, which arguably does more to psych out his opponents than running around yelling and beating his chest would do. And watching the man move, as at ease in the wrestling ring as most men are in their rec rooms, it's hard not to think of the word "stealth" as the best descriptor for his tiger-like grace and cagey disposition. Every move looks calculated for maximum impact - and he's one of the few wrestlers who looks like he could pull a man apart, limb from limb, with just a few precise, economical strokes.
Across the ring is Shannon Embry, a wrestler who has met some of BG East's best talent face to face in the ring. He's built a reputation for himself here for his moxie and ability to take a drubbing, which means, let's say, his win-loss ratio could use a few more wins. Not that Embry doesn't have the moves. He lights into Brand pretty quickly in Fall 1, taking the sardonic blond down to the mat more than once. But his style pointedly contrasts with Caleb's cool and clinical cruelty. When Brand takes it to heart to go after his arms, clearly determined to do him some "damage," as he not just admits but nonchalantly boasts, Shannon's eyes get a lost deer-in-the-headlights look. That particular look must touch something deep inside the icy cockles of Caleb's heart because the handsome heel proceeds to attack Embry's legs just as savagely.
