Mikey makes clear his disdain for the young stud by repeatedly getting his name wrong - the typical sign of disrespect in wrestling. "Gary," "Freddie," "Sidney," - what the hell. Eventually after calling him "Dennis," he asks, "Dennis, right?" Denny, barely able to breathe and battered to the point of exhaustion, yelps out, dryly, "Sure."
In time, Denny picks up on some of Mikey's tricks, and as the match progresses, the two fighters are matched, surprisingly, somewhat more evenly. Afterall, Denny is grounded in amateur wrestling. Still, there's no way to resist a mad bull like Vee for long. Even Denny's intermittent shows of spunk work like fuel on Vee's ferocity. "C'mon let's go," Vee roars, "School time!" Cartier doesn't know what hit him. "Do you always treat students like this?"
Denny can't quite keep the whine out of his voice. He begins to suspect that something may not be quite right with Vee. Having deluded himself that all this damage is educational, Denny is at last beginning to suspect something is wrong. The real lesson here, of course, is survival of the fittest, and Vee has a long and distinguished record of destroying guys bigger and more skilled than Denny. It looks certain that Vee won't let up till Cartier is just a greasy spot on the wrestling mat.
On top of everything, Denny makes a huge error in judgment. He asks Vee an apparently innocent question. Vee explodes. Unwittingly, Denny has touched a nerve ... and hard as it may be to believe, things are about to get much much worse for young Denny Cartier. "Y'see?" Vee explains, while twisting the stud up in a painful knot, "When I was real young. I had a mentor. His name was Stuie, and he taught me all kinds of nasty things. ... He taught me how to fight, he taught me how to fight dirty."
Hard to say whether Cartier will survive Vee's so-called mentoring. Vee doesn't break potentially life-threatening holds even after his opponent submits. So Cartier's fate may be sealed - perhaps the only real mystery is whether this pupil will get to walk out at the end of this lesson on his own two feet - or get carried out by EMS!
