Immovable Object versus Unstoppable Force
Perhaps the more important question to ask here is, what did Matt Stryker do to deserve this bout? He's been making mince meat out of one young BGE buck after another, and unfortunately for Jonny, Matt is not the typical slow and sloppy muscle brute. He matches Jonny hold for hold, displaying speed that no one his size should have a right to possess. He seems unable to avoid Jonny's repeated sweeps to take him off his feet, but as soon as the action hits the mats, Matt is every bit the accomplished Indy tactician that Jonny is.
Matt's strategy is apparent early in this match. He's determined to use both his mat skills and superior power to tie Jonny up in knots and leave the lightweight helpless to defend himself. Matt delights in counting for Jonny how many of the young hunk's limbs he is controlling at any one moment. He locks Jonny's legs up in a figure-4 and simultaneously traps Jonny's left arm between his ankles, leaving the scrappy lightweight completely flummoxed. Tied up like a pretzel, Matt squeezes a desperate submission out of Jonny for the first fall. Jonny is writhing in pain, his right arm nearly ripped out of its socket. "Come on Jonny, get up!" Matt taunts. "I got plenty more for you! Take it like a man!"
Outgunned and frequently outmaneuvered, Jonny truly does take this match like a man. He soaks up an incredible dose of punishment. Twisted and bent at astonishing angles, Jonny proves tenaciously that he won't be steamrolled, even by a 215 pound steam engine like Matt. Jonny goes for broke by launching a head-hunting expedition: fists, forearms and elbows pounding into Matt's mug clearly startle the big man.
Classic Indy action gives way to ever nastier and more vicious tactics. Absent a ref to keep things clean, highflying drop kicks and expert submission holds are replaced with biting, stomping, tied-in-the-ropes humiliation. Jonny's impressive ability to soak up punishment is tested painstakingly by Matt's overwhelming desire to destroy his cocky lightweight challenger. From the beginning to the very spectacular end, this match delivers the goods: brilliant mat wrestling and phenomenal ring action from two of the best in the business!
