Natural Enemies
In his shark-fin haircut Austin Cooper has never looked more predatory. The physique is perfection. The stars-and-stripes spandex trunks cling to his significant bulges, drawing the gaze of Kirby Stone, pretty and pudgy in shocking pink. Kirby wonders aloud whether he signed on for a bodybuilding competition by mistake. Austin assumes Kirby is envious and as good as says so. At BG East, the full-bodied wrestler and the body-beautiful wrestler have forever been natural enemies. The question of the perfect body for wrestling is frequently raised on underground-wrestling blogs and in the squared circle. It's a question impossible to answer. Austin and Kirby are both good-looking "big boys," fit for grappling, so who's better becomes an issue these big-boned dudes need to settle mano a mano.
It doesn't take Kirby long to move from opening lock-up to side headlock. Austin grimaces because Kirby has a tight clutch. Somehow he manages to escape and twist his opponent's arm behind his back. Unperturbed, Kirby reverses and reapplies the headlock, even tighter now. He drops down on one knee for a second, adding pressure to Austin's neck. Then Austin reverses, bookending Kirby's ears between the crook of his arm and his right pec. Kirby hears the basso pounding of his opponent's heart. Austin speeds towards a turnbuckle, runs up it, and flips and slams Stone to the center of the mat, arching up to tighten the crunch. Grimacing, Kirby thrashes and twice rolls Coop on his shoulders, but the bodybuilder quickly reasserts his dominance and pulls himself and Stone back to their feet. The transition gives Kirby an extra inch to reverse, and he takes it, double-chickenwinging his muscly opponent.
This tightly maneuvered exchange illustrates how well matched these boys are, despite obvious physical differences. It also sets a pattern for the rest of the match. Cooper ups the pace and goes acrobatic all over Stone. A fast pin fall becomes both men's goal in a series of speedy reversals. Kirby gets a two-count. Frustrated he testily stomps on a weakened Cooper and then kneels on the side of the guy's face, pulling and twisting the left arm by the wrist. Austin groans in agony. Kirby shifts to a headlock, then a chinlock, then back to a headlock with a punch to the golden boy's face, thrown in for good measure. The match is just beginning, and it's already a vicious struggle. Kirby dominates for six or seven more minutes until Cooper intercepts a high kick and assumes control. He has no intention of being merciful. Sweat shimmers on the shoulders and chests on both fighters, and we're not even halfway through the match.
These guys use the ropes, turnbuckles, and ring floor as bludgeons. By the midpoint, we see a clear front-runner, and he is hellbent on taking his opponent apart piece by piece. Both men have something to prove and need no excuse to kick ass. The guy taking the worse beating refuses to give his opponent the satisfaction of closure. The front-runner warns him that he's making matters only worse for himself by refusing to go down and stay down. In the end, a quick and hard-eyed piledriver pulls the plug on one of the hottest matches we've seen in a while. If brutal and exhausting fights get you hard, this battle is a perfect aphrodisiac.
