The sky is blue. The sun is bright. Wind blows gently through the branches above. Jonny Firestorm rakes the leaves and pine needles into a large but neat heap. What he doesn't need is Brendan Byers stepping out on the back porch, asking him what exactly his role at BG East is. "Whatever I need to be. Some of us have to work for a living," Jonny replies with the frankness of someone who is in touch with reality, and who has little patience for people who contribute nothing to the details that promote order. Brendan says he's looking for somebody "to beat up on." Jonny suggests that maybe the Boss doesn't want Brendan to wrestle. With a smug smile and hands on his hips, Brendan dares Jonny to say that to his face.
Jonny tosses the rake and steps quietly onto the porch and stands, his nose just an inch away from Brendan's nose. "I can't blame the Boss. I wouldn't want to have you wrestle for me either," he repeats, slowly and clear as a bell. Brendan stoops down to meet Jonny eye to eye and says, incautiously, "You're gonna get a LOT of punishment for that." Jonny flexes his right biceps, glaring into Brendan's eyes. Firestorm reminds Byers that he used to be a jobber. Brendan replies that "the key words are 'used to be'." Cutting words exchanged, then, out of nowhere, Brendan grabs Jonny's throat and forces him to kneel. He lifts Jonny over his head and helfs him head over heels into the pile of leaves. Byers picks up the rake and chokes Jonny with the handle!
Okay, readers, place your bets.
Jonny can't speak. He can barely breathe. He grabs a fistful of dry leaves and throws them into Brendan's eyes. He falls face forward into the grass. Brendan comes at him from behind, picks him up, and tosses him back into the mound of leaves. He picks Jonny up in a bear hug, then drops him ... knee to the balls. Jonny falls backwards, and Brendan squats on his neck and flexes his biceps. He rolls onto his back, with Jonny's face still pressed between his thighs. Brendan flexes his thigh muscles, causing Jonny to grimace and grunt. Firestorm gets to his feet and picks Brendan up off the grass and then slams the guy's back to the ground. Hard. Jonny strips off Brendan's gray shirt, grabs the rake, and chokes him with it. Brutal.
The fight carries both heels around the BGE grounds. They battle on the deck, gradually stripping each other down to their briefs. Jonny literally wipes his butt with Brendan's face. Dirty. Fists fly right and left and up and down. Jonny gets Brendan in a side headlock and marches him to the Wrestleshack. They don't enter, preferring to duke it out against the wall. Brendan slams the door against Jonny's head. Jonny bangs Brendan's head against a tree trunk and chokes him with a rubber hose. Brendan bangs Jonny's forehead against several tree trunks, close to the peaceful lake. They make their way to the gazebo. Brendan uses the abandoned mats to bludgeon Jonny, then bury him. Things will get settled in the gazebo, but it's a long, cruel ordeal.
This epic battle has the breadth and scope of an old cowboy fight in a saloon that swells out into the street, the brawlers making weapons of anything they can get their hands on. In the end, there's a clear winner and loser. This is a scrap you will remember years from now. Brendan and Jonny have created an outdoor brawl that's part spectacle and part private duel!
