The Stakes
Whatever stakes MJ Vergara and Joah Bindao decided between themselves, we only know that they were fairly high. Bindao is determined to prove himself after the humiliating beatdown Mike Columbo dished out on him a decade ago. That much we know. Vergara is a rookie, always an unknown factor. He certainly has the sculpted physique of a born fighterâ??smooth hard muscle on the shoulders and chest, compact abs spanning a long sleek waist, and thick sinewy thighs, ideal for prolonged and sensuous scissorholds. A glance into his eyes and you can see the hunger for victory and domination there, more specifically the need to prove himself a man by beating a man like Bindao in the ring. But what personal stakes are here we can only guess at, looking at the intent, steady gaze of Joah as he sizes his opponent up and the game, bring-it-on smirk on MJ's mouth.
The two men pose off in a silent show of one-upmanship. Every muscle pops on these guys, and the spirit of competition leads them to an exchange of gut punches, at first just to settle whose abs are firmer. Friendly enough at first, the exchanges get heated when one of MJ's punches causes Joah to flinch in pain.. Joah fires back with punches that have the impact of cannonballs, pushing the punk back to the ropes. When MJ responds by knocking Joah back on his heels and against the ropes, the older wrestler backs the kid into the turnbuckle and beats a submission out of him. Round one to Bindao. But the curt manner of this victory stings MJ's ego and fires his desire to pay Joah back.
The contest retains some of the ritualistic qualities of the posedown, showing off the fighters' machismo and training, but as tempers flare a little, the fight heats up. The rookie is no pushover. He strikes back at the veteran with speed and force. MJ knows his strengths, and getting Joah on the mat is his best bet for wearing him down to pull off a surprise victory. When he succeeds in taking his man down, MJ shows Joah just what kind of punishment his sinewy thighs are capable of dealing out. The sexy bad boy has a taste for making a man suffer. Circulation cut off from his head, Joah's face tingles with numbing nerves, his brain shuts down, til all that is left is the reptilian will to survive.
But Bindao is not down for the count. He knows the stakesâ??for himself at BG East, as a wrestler, as a man. Every pang of hurt young MJ savors inflicting on Bindao is going to come back at him ... with interest. The universal flaw of inexperience is carelessness. Joah is anything but careless. Even in distress, Joah calculates what it's going to takeâ??what wildly showy display of domination is neededâ??to break young MJ's flip self-assurance and bring the punk abjectly and unconditionally under his command.
