"Changing the Rules of the Game"
Cain is 30 pounds lighter than the veteran, while Mikey is looking at 20 years of youthful stamina on the side of his opponent. The net result is that Mikey is puffing like a steam engine and soaking wet when Cain has yet to break a sweat. This is not a typical Mikey Vee initiation. The youngster is like a machine, silently and methodically working each second to neutralize the veteran's every offensive gambit. With undeniable maturity, Cain tests and learns from each second on the mat with Mikey, circling closer and closer toward piercing the big man's impenetrable armor. Eighteen minutes of non-stop grappling reach a sweat-soaked climax with the rookie first looking like he's about to submit Mikey in a triangle choke, but then smoothly dropping to his back and threatening to snap the veteran's arm at the elbow in an arm lock. Mikey fights hard to resist, but he's been outmaneuvered by the young hunk. He taps out with a frantic, desperate cry, "I give!"
"You lucky fuck, man!" Mikey grouses in frustration, working his aching arm and nursing his injured pride. "That's one you got on me! One! We're going again!" Cain shakes his head, "That wasn't the deal," the first words he's spoken. "The deal was one match."
"Hey, fuck the deal, man!" Mikey snarls. "You know who you're in this room with? When that door closes, I make the fucking rules around here!"
"That wasn't the deal. I'm outta here," Cain insists, heading toward the door. But Mikey is a master of mind games. Just as Cain reaches for the door handle, Mikey taunts him, calling him a name that Cain just can't walk away from. Cain charges back into the fray angrily, but this time he's off his game plan. He's fighting on sheer adrenaline and pride, and suddenly, they're working off Mikey's game plan now.
Both mat warriors are soaked and muscling their way through the wall of exhaustion. Cain nearly rips Mikey's crotch apart in a savage spladle. Mikey almost pulls off a stunning simultaneous body scissors and bearhug that simply has to be seen to be believed. Cain sticks his tongue out as he concentrates, working his every muscle like chess pieces in a brutal chess match. Mikey grunts and growls like a wolf taking down prey. He finally manages to take control of the youngster's back and force a tap out with a rear choke.
The final and decisive fall begins with the mats shiny with puddles of sweat. Neither skilled fighter ever expected the battle to go this long. They're both in that dangerously vulnerable place bordering on complete exhaustion. Finally, a figure-four choke forces one humiliated grappler to swallow his pride and give up the decisive victory. The margin of victory is infinitesimal, but the snarling satisfaction of the victor is just that much sweeter.
