"Wanna get smart with me?" The question is rhetorical for Exavier. But it's a triple-edged question, meaning "you asked for it" and "let me teach you a little something about wrestling" and, no doubt, "how's this for some pain?" All at the same time. With a perhaps slight nod to Kid Leopard's classic instructional "A-Z of BG East Wrestling", to go with the teeny leopard spots on his neon blue trunks, the arrogant veteran proceeds to "discipline and punish" Mike Pitt, a phrase that roughly translates as "destroy" here at BG East. He attacks Pitt's shoulder so that the hurt will hang on for a good three weeks at least. It may not survive to see another pushup. And that's just fine with the Ex man.
If Mike wants to "make a name" for himself, as Exavier contends, the rookie cannot afford to let the veteran's flash and bluster distract him from the clear fact that the man is a swift, canny, and brutal wrestler. The kid tends to make the same mistake - once he gets a little leverage over Exavier, which happens pretty regularly, and more by skill than just by luck, Mike starts to think the match is a done deal and lets down his guard, and nobody, nobody, is a good enough wrestler to let his guard down around Exavier.
This match should be played LOUD. Few other matches would benefit as much from a good speaker system. It offers a lot of groaning - more by Mike, who sells each blow and hold perfectly, than by Exavier. For every grunt and moan he squeezes out of the always-game young competitor, though, Exavier has a quip, or two, or three. The man can talk ... seriously. Pitt wants nothing more than to shut the guy's yap up, but, as already mentioned, there's a lot more to Exavier than lip. In the great tradition of gentleman brawlers with high levels of vanity and ostentation - Gorgeous George, Ric Flair, Rick Rude, and maybe even John Morrison - Exavier has got the edge to back up the ego.
The historical comparisons are not accidental. This is old-school wrestling we loved as kids. Dramatic, deliberate, and intense. It's a well-fought match between two well-matched fighters, both representing strongly contrasting ring personalities. Exavier is the self-adoring heel - all haircut, color coordination, parlor tan, quick wits, brawn, and savvy. Mike is the ardent striver - all ambition, dedication, go-for-broke drive, sturdiness, and rashness. Exavier wants to put a scare in Pitt so he will never have face the kid again - but Mike doesn't scare easily and, when focused and alert, he puts up as good a fight as Exavier.
