No Such Thing as a Good Clean Fight
There are not many who can step into the ring with a man one hundred pounds heavier and still make fans believe they're watching an even contest. But that's Paul Hudson for you. Smaller and lighter than most of his opponents over the years, Paul has learned to tie men in knots and fuck them up. Pushed too far, he changes, in a fraction of a second, from the boy next door to a snarling beast. He has mastered the art, if it can be called "art," of losing every civilized inhibition and releasing and even amplifying the savage brute within. The moment comes in this match when Joe Robbins, out of arrogance or sadism, pushes Paul to the breaking point. Paul explodes. Joe climbs the top rope to bombard Paul from the air. Paul rolls clear, and Joe's head hits the ring post. Joe objects, "Nobody makes a fool of me like that!" Paul sneaks in from behind and smashes Joe's nuts: "We'll see about that!" he hisses, in disgust, as Joe grovels and groans in pain.
The good thing about losing control is nothing holds you back. The bad thing about losing control is, well, you lose control. Anything can happen. Restraint disappears, but so do strategy and a sense of self-preservation. Paul drives his boot to Joe's throat and clings to the top ropes for added thrust. The next minute he guillotines Joe against the middle rope. Then, outside the ring, Paul brutalizes the big guy against the ring post, then tosses him back into the ring for more. Having almost immobilized his opponent, Paul goes for the rear naked choke, one of the riskiest holds in grappling. Every nerve and joint in Joe's body is racked with stabbing pain as his mind swiftly drifts off to unconsciousness.
Joe likes to say he never quits. Paul is determined to put the lie to that boast. However much Joe suffers, his pride won't let him tap out. The combination of Paul's berserk fury and Joe's swaggering ego appears to leave only two options: Joe must find a way to turn the tide back in his favor, or Paul is going to totally destroy him in the ring. This match marks a high point in the Catch Weight series, exemplifying the best that mixing guys of markedly different weights has to offer. The outcome and last five minutes of this match will definitely have an impact on you. It is a defining moment for both Robbins and Hudson, and for sheer intensity and drama, one of the most entertaining climaxes in underground wrestling. But, then, you would expect nothing less of BG East.
