No Mercy: A Star Is Born
Nobody is surprised how quickly young Jake Jenkins has developed an enthusiastic following after his appearance on Ripped Rookies 1 just a very short while ago. Jake combines two cardinal virtues for BGE wrestling - he has a very sexy body, damned near perfectly proportioned for a ring rookie, and he knows his way around a wrestling match. He may be relatively new to ring wrestling but this boy has spent endless hours on the mats. But ring and mat and the action they host are often battle locations worlds apart.
It doesn't take a genius to know that Jake's chances of a win - in a series called "Hunkbash" - are decidedly slim to totally nonexistent, yet his competence as a wrestler makes his struggle, doomed though it may be, not only riveting but also hotter than it might have been if he were only a pretty face. His performance here is even more impressive than his first. Of course, the outcome of his very impressive debut (against his former high-school teammate Austin Cooper) was far from a foregone conclusion. But here everything from the title on foreshadows the sexy young hunk's doom.
What makes Jenkins so good and so compelling to watch is the way he takes the act of being thrown through the ropes as a chance to display the grace and agility of his well-disciplined body. He flies like an aerialist with grace under fire. When Kid Karisma squats on his back and pulls his head back by the hair as a humiliating prelude for his punishing camel clutch, Jake's clenched eyes and bared teeth are what make us viewers feel the pain with him. More than just "acting," this wrestler commits both mind and body to the scenario 100%. Total engagement in the action of a match, concentrating all one's assets to every move, is the true scorecard of pro wrestling excellence. And the action in this extraordinary match is visceral: stunning, startling, sweaty and sexy.
