The University of BG East: Sophomore Slam
Ray Naylor and Drake Marcos return for their second term at The University of BG East, this time to square off against each other. Last year none other than Cameron Matthews broke in Ray in Undagear 19, and though ludicrously outclassed in savvy and experience, Ray's fighting heart and relentlessness caught everybody's attention. You probably recognize Drake from X-Fights 34, also last year, in which he debuted against a newly muscled and tightly wound Gabriel Ross, a steamy squash match the X-Fights fanboys are still buzzing about. Drake benefits from having 'trained' under Kid Leopard himself, but it was no doubt a given that, as a first-timer, he would be powerless against Gabriel's devious (and arousing) wiles. Given Ray's and Drake's energy and pugnacity, there's no chance of a "sophomore slump" here. Each man seems intensely aware that, after a dues-paying inauguration, this fight is the one to prove his mettle and pull in fans.
Ray calls out Drake, confident that he can easily take this guy. The two wrestlers are tightly matched. Both know their way around a mat. Ray's eyes betray a strong bent for mischief and a willingness to cross lines to get his own way. When Drake wriggles free from Ray's initial assault, Ray shortcuts with a low blow that effectively crumples his pretty faced opponent. He enjoys the dirty tactic so much that he clamps down harder and longer, savoring Drake's writhing pain. This is Ray's idea of a good time, but Drake makes sure he pays for it soon enough. Drake gives the fledgling heel a hard spanking and then stretches the wannabe bad boy out, totally immobilized and helpless, left high and dry.
Despite getting a taste of Drake's determination and know-how, Ray remains confident, perhaps overly confident, holding back as his opponent revs himself up for a second fall. Though stalling, he feigns disinterest, saying, "Just gonna sit here and wait for you to make your move." Drake doesn't have to be asked twice. He tackles Ray and digs into him like a tick. Ray turns it around soon enough, but Drake makes it hard. From the looks of things, Drake makes Ray hard too. The rookies find themselves temporarily stalemated in a mutually destructive "69" scissors hold. These two young talents have clearly drawn the lines for this match, an intense give-and-take fight to the finish. They have decided that after this mat scrap everybody into wrestling is going to know their names.
