Toney Rico is a husky rookie with burly shoulders and sturdy thighs, heavier than his opponent, and a helluva lot greener. Tall, lean Rolf Fulton has been on the wrestling scene for a while, here at BG East and elsewhere in independent promotions. "I must let you know I'm pretty experienced," he advises Toney regarding his technical know-how. Rolf is a smart tactician who likes a good fight more than anything else and likes leaving opponents with a few scuff marks as souvenirs. When Toney accepted Rolf's sleeper challenge, we suggested that the rookie first study Fulton's previous BGE bouts, but the new guy wasn't interested in watching videos or studying; he just wanted to jump in the ring, get down and wrestle.
In this challenge match, the winner will be the first wrestler to knock his opponent out three times. Usually it's not a contest for beginners, but Toney believed he could handle it, and given his size and surly attitude, we felt he might be right. A test of strength confirms that the rookie has the muscle for it. Rolf takes the initiative, but he can't budge the new guy, who quickly forces Fulton, red faced, down on one knee. Rolf builds up steam and rises, pushing back, but gets only halfway before Toney drives him forcefully back down. Rolf looks right at the camera with an "oh-shit" expression on his face. But Fulton is fierce, frisky and wily too. After two unsuccessful attempts to rally, Fulton pulls a smart, scientific and rather crafty move, proving that brawn isn't everything. He flips backwards, inverting the positioning of the fingerlock, with Toney now in the hurting position.
Flustered, Toney responds with brute force. He hurls Rolf to the ropes, but within seconds, Rolf is climbing up his back and locking on a rear naked choke. Toney appears to weaken, but then he backs up, driving Rolf's tailbone to the turnbuckle, and successfully breaks the hold. With the mean monkey off his back, he delivers a shoulder block that folds Fulton up like a love letter. He follows with another and another, knocking the wind clean out of his more experienced opponent. He snapmares Rolf to the center of the ring, where he nearly succeeds in choking him out to score the first all-important KO, but Rolf retaliates with a reverse head butt to the nose and teeth. Again, Rolf uses his head, literally, this time. Rolf makes a second try for a rear choke, and he's close to success when suddenly Toney whips him off the ropes and reverses, gaining the first fall with a steamy and excruciating 70-second strangulation. It's a stunning turn-around. And trust us, it's h-o-t!
It's a surprise first-to-score win for the rookie, yet Toney looks unsurprised, standing over his adversary, pumping his biceps like a born conqueror. The camera cuts to Fulton on his back, arms and legs spread wide. Toney nudges the guy's head with his boot. Rolf wakes with a start. Emboldened by his victory, Toney claps a bear hug on his opponent, who's still staggering after being unconscious for who knows how long. Again, Toney's raw power catches Rolf by surprise. We almost see Rolf counting his options mentally. A punch to the nuts does the trick. (This is BG East, after all!) Toney crashes to his knees, and Rolf snaps him into an inverted facelock. In 40 seconds the score is tied, and Toney is out cold.
With each man two knockouts away from a match win, the last 30 minutes offers a bevy of scientific holds in conflict with primal animal violence, abounding in grunts, sweat, bulges, reversals, and stripped-off trunks and climaxing with a sexed-up nose-to-ass figure-four head scissors choke-out KO!
