Master of Submissions
Daniel Bernal was in the crowd at BGE's second annual Wrestling with Pride show in South Florida. He saw and heard Ethan Axel Andrews declare himself the new Master of Submissions at BG East, but he did not like what he saw and heard that historic evening at the Manor Complex. In a vehement email to the BGE front office, Daniel declared that Ethan doesn't deserve that distinction, held for years by Kid Leopard. "Ethan was way out of line in conferring such a cherished title upon himself."
It turns out that Daniel was not the only one enraged by Ethan's power grab. An anonymous insider at BGE later contacted Daniel in private, confessing that he too found Andrews's behavior most inappropriate and suggested a time and a place where Daniel might "accidentally" encounter the rogue in person. Though new to our roster, Bernal, it turns out, has quite a reputation in the private bouts underground, and this is a score he would like to settle man on man with the self-professed Master of Submissions.
Bernal is waiting when Andrews shows up for a workout. He introduces himself, all smiles. Ethan can't be bothered even to remove his shades while talking to someone he assumes is one of the hired help or, at best, a fan, one among his legions of fans worldwide. Ethan is perfectly comfortable telling Daniel to hold off the undesirables while E.A.A. is hitting the weight room and the mats for some 'shadow wrestling'.
Then, Ethan lets slip that he lacks a sparring partner today, so Daniel innocently asks whether they might wrestle each other. Ethan agrees hesitantly, saying, "I just want to forewarn you, though, that, y'know, I am the new Master of Submissions. So, I mean you've probably heard that, y'know, Kid Leopard is pretty much retired now, so I'm claiming that spot as Master of Submissions, and I have put a lot of people out of commission." Benevolent "Master" that he is, though, Ethan promises to go easy on the guy, totally clueless of Daniel's renown as a giant-killer in underground wrestling.
Skipping to one hour later, the two are in the mat room, in singlets and wrestling shoes, Ethan's red, Daniel's black. The two lock up. Daniel gets the first takedown, but Ethan quickly reverses. After much maneuvering, Ethan snaps an ultra-tight scissors hold on Daniel's head. Daniel groans, clearly in pain, despite Ethan's promise to go easy. Much to Andrews's surprise, though, Bernal muscles himself loose of the scissors and climbs on top. Ethan reverses, but Daniel raises and dangles him a half foot over his body, a clean and impressive show of resistance for a presumed lackey. Though the two appear very well matched, Ethan is seemingly more willing to hurt his opponent and thus wins the first fall. All in good sport.
"Oh, was that tight?" Ethan plays innocent. "Oh shit!" Daniel exclaims, holding his throbbing head. Ethan talks as if he's concerned for his new sparring partner's well-being, but he can't wipe the look of self-congratulation off his face. "You want to call it quits?" Daniel shakes the cobwebs from his head, replying quickly, "No way!" The battle escalates. Neither man holds back. It's as if all-out war has been declared between the two. Truly, there's no "as if" about it. With just his legs, Bernal bends Andrews in half, clamping Ethan's kneecap to the side of Ethan's head. "Am I squeezing too hard?" Daniel asks, parodying his adversary's pretended concern moments earlier. Red-faced, Ethan taps out.
So, who IS the Master of Submissions? This is not an officially sanctioned challenge mainly because Ethan's claim to the title is itself a fraud. But both gentlemen are eager to get the goods on each other, ever more so as the match progresses. And with 26 minutes remaining, the punishments are only beginning. Neither Daniel nor Ethan is phoning this fight in. It gets more gripping and reckless as tensions mount and tempers flare, as they often do here at BG East. With the sizzling action and the skimpy singlets riding up their sweat-soaked bodies, these two provide a mat match for the ages!
