Three Secrets of Successful Bad Boys
How do BG's bad boys do it? What are their secrets? One: Confidence. Dick Rick doesn't have to read his fan mail (and he gets plenty!) to know he's all that. He's never entered the ring looking less than his best or expecting anything but a clean, quick, and uncontested victory. The thought of losing never enters his brain. He is one positive-thinking bad ass, the Norman Vincent Peale of heels, the Dr. Phil of villainy, the Tony Robbins of bullies and cheats. Being on top is as natural to him as being wet is to a fish. When he looks across the ring at a fine specimen of young manhood like Peter Owens, full of dreams and ambitions of his own, Dick sees just another notch on his wrestling boots and a paycheck at the end of the day. Dick has never perceived any of his opponents as a challenge, ever. Sometimes this sense of entitlement comes back to bite him in the ass, but usually his enormous self-confidence brings him the triumph he sees as only his due.
Two: Abuse. Dick Rick lives in an almost constant state of outrage. He feels wronged when other people don't let him walk all over them. When things actually go against him, he blames somebody else, even if there's an unmistakable link back to his own actions ... especially then. He identifies a scapegoat, stokes his wrath against him, and then expiates the wrong by ripping him apart. He'll blame a tag partner for a loss, blame a ref for missing a count, blame bad management for a drop in popularity, even blame opponents for daring to try to best him. When Pete Owens turns the tables on Dick, squeezing a couple of submissions out of him, not once does Dick think that maybe he should have tried a little harder, that maybe Owens is just a little tougher than he initially thought he would be. No. When Pete gets the upper hand, Dick sees Pete as the one and only problem - and identifies its only solution as the total annihilation of Owens, by whatever means it takes. For bad boys, other people exist to exploit, hurt, bad-mouth, and blame. It's a pretty simple ethics, when you stop to think about it, a life without conscience.
Three: Craft. Heroes and heels alike need know-how. They need to be proficient at many holds, strong and fit, and constantly alert. Whatever else he may be, Dick is a specialist in domination, punishment, and perseverance, but then so is any good wrestler. Pete, too, knows his way around the ring. Dick and Pete both are highly skilled. The difference is craft, as in "crafty." Bad boys are always scheming. They know all the moves, but they specialize in the crippling ones. It's not enough for them to master all the holds. They need tricks, too, the more underhanded and vicious the better. They are artisans of distraction, cruelty, humiliation, and cowardly escapes. Dick Rick is one of the best in the game - in a league with Mr. Joshua Goodman and Mikey Vee - and to watch him at work in the ring with Peter Owens, no slouch in taking care of himself in a fight, is to witness the kind of top-shelf mayhem we have come to expect - and cherish - from BG East.
